Instituto Tropical office in Vienna, located in the 9th district creates bridges between artistic eco systems across the ocean.
  • A Studio
  • An Office
  • A Temporal Exhibition Space

Instituto Tropical in Vienna is a studio and office space where the artists Amanda Piña and Michel Jimenez work on a variety of projects, creating connections between Europe and Latin America, the city of Vienna's arts scene, and the artistic work developed at Instituto Tropical in México.

Rooted in exchange, the space fosters dialogue between Western and non-Western perspectives, bridging practices and knowledges while actively engaging Vienna’s multicultural communities and their role in shaping the city’s identity.

As a contribution to a wider and glocal discussion on the climate emergency and the contribution of artistic practices in processes of eco-social transformation, Instituto Tropical Vienna presents works at the intersection between art and acosystemic restoration, feeding systems and art.
Involving associated artist, researches and curators
Instituto Tropical wishes to be a bridge between Austria and Mexico, Agriculture, Ecology and Art.

The curatorial board of Instituto Tropical Vienna curates a biennial exhibition that presents the artistic research and creations that are developed in its counterpart in México.

Contrasting the tendencies of the city's institutional art field, with the work that Mexican and Austrian artists and researchers develop in rural Mexico. This biennial exhibition wishes to contribute to debates on socio- ecological transformation, exploring the power of artistic practices to contribute these processes across distant geographies.
